
Kathryn was admitted to practice in Jamaica in 2004. She graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Hons.) in 2002, and then from the Norman Manley Law School in 2004 with a Legal Education Certificate.
Kathryn joined the firm as an Associate in 2004 and began her practice as a member of the Litigation Department. During this time, she gained exposure to a wide variety of areas and appeared as Instructing Counsel and Counsel before the various courts of the island.
In 2006, Kathryn transferred to the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. Stemming from her litigation background, her IP practice has a specific focus on contentious intellectual property matters including infringement, enforcement, counterfeiting and customs matters. She also has considerable experience in the handling of trade mark oppositions and cancellation actions and appears regularly on behalf of the firm’s clients in hearings before the Registrar of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO).
Kathryn also operates a comprehensive trade mark law practice, including trade mark prosecution, searches, renewals and the recording of licences, security interests, assignments and mergers. She has a great deal of experience in preparing and advising on contracts concerning the use and commercialization of trade marks, such as merchandising agreements, co-branding agreements, co-existence agreements, licences and assignments. She also provides advice and opinions on various aspects of intellectual property law, including general trade mark and branding issues, copyright and related rights.
Kathryn is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), as well as INTA Leadership where she currently co-chairs the Law & Practice subcommittee of the INTA Bulletin for Latin America and the Caribbean. She is also a member of the Jamaican Bar Association and its Intellectual Property Law Sub-Committee, the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and the Intellectual Property Caribbean Association (IPCA). The World Trademark Review 1000 has consistently named Kathryn as one of “The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals” since 2013.
Kathryn serves on the board of the Jamaica Cancer Society as Secretary. She is a travel enthusiast, and typically spends her free time exploring new destinations.
